How to use the “talk about” pictures in the power point above:
What have they done? How do they feel about this?
  • Emotions – teacher/ parent/ pairs ask questions. This exercise encourages children to talk about emotions and how to respond to them.
  • Look at these pictures: Ask any relevant questions of your own. Some ideas are given below.
  • “What is happening in this picture?”; “How are (they) feeling?”;  “Why do you think they may be feeling ___ ?”; “Have you ever felt like this?” 
  • “When and why?”
  • If you felt (sad/ angry/ ashamed etc.) what made you feel better?
  • How can we help someone who is feeling (sad/ hurt/ lonely etc.)?
  • What’s going on here?  This exercise encourages observation, thinking skills and conversation.  
  • Look at these ‘busy’ pictures and talk about what’s happening. Teachers/ parents/ children ask questions such as (e.g. Page 19 Fun day at school)
  • Q: What is happening in this picture? (People are making food/ buying and selling food.
  • Where are they? (At school). How do you know? (From the title!)
  • What kind of day is it? (Sunny/ windy/ rainy).
  • Who is in the picture? (Tatenda and David, Jenny, Chipo Father, Mother and Mother, Uncle Tim and Aunt Pat and other people.)
  • What are Father and Uncle Tim doing?
  • What are the two mothers making? How are Tatenda and David helping them?
  • What are Aunt Pat and Jenny doing? (Making and selling popcorn).
  • If you were at the school fun day, what would YOU choose to eat from this picture?
  • Class discussion: If your school had a fun day, what food would you like to make and sell? What else could you do at the fun day?
  • Why did the school have a fun day? (To make money). If you had lots of money, what would you buy for your school?
